Resolving Player Issues

[image-62]The following information has been provided should you need assistance in viewing the professional development training modules.

You may only need a few simple updates to get things working properly. We recommend that you check the following, and if an update is needed, test the player after each install.

1. Media Player
Windows Media Player 10 or above is needed to view training modules.
Mac media player requirements: Intel-based: Silverlight 3 /
PowerPC-based: Silverlight 1

2. Plugins
Make sure that you have the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player Plugin installed on your PC.

3. Browser Version
PC browsers
* Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 6, IE7, IE8,
* Mozilla Firefox (FF) 3, FF3.5, FF3.6
Mac browsers
*Safari 3, 4, 5
*Mozilla Firefox 3, 3.5, 3.6

4. Computer Requirements:

PC operating systems
32-bit OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7
64-bit OS: Windows 7

PC browsers
32-bit OS:
* Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 6, IE7, IE8,
* Mozilla Firefox (FF) 3, FF3.5, FF3.6

PC media player requirements
Windows Media Player (WMP) 10 or higher
WMP 11 recommended

Mac operating systems
32-bit OS: 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
64-bit OS: 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

Mac browsers
Safari 3, 4, 5
Mozilla Firefox 3, 3.5, 3.6

Mac media player requirements
Intel-based: Silverlight 3
PowerPC-based: Silverlight 1

Minimum RAM
1 GB
Recommended RAM
1 GB or more

Minimum CPU
Pentium 4, 1.3 GHz
Recommended CPU
Intel Core Duo

 

5. Additional Browser Support:
Internet Explorer

To view or download a Tegrity recording, you may need to have make some changes to Internet Explorer (IE) security settings. Please check your IE settings using the following steps:
1. In Internet Explorer, select Internet Options from the Tools menu
2. Select the Security tab
3. Click Trusted Sites (green check mark) icon/zone
4. Click Sites button
5. Uncheck the checkbox associated with "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone."
6. Add the URL of your institution's Tegrity environment
7. Click the Add button on the Trusted sites window
8. Click the Close button on the Trusted sites window
9. Click the "Custom level…" button on the Internet Option Window
10. Reset the level to "Medium" or search for the following settings and select the indicated toggle button.
o Binary and script behaviors – Enable
o Download signed ActiveX controls – Prompt
o Download unsigned ActiveX controls – Prompt
o Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins – Enable or Prompt
o Automatic prompting for file downloads – Enable
o Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting – Enable
o File download – Enable
o Allow website to open windows without address or status bars – Enable
11. Select the OK button on the Security Settings window.
12. Select the OK button on the Internet Options window.
13. Close all browser windows.
14. Open a new browser window and try to view or download a Tegrity Recording.
If you set any of the security settings to Prompt, please accept/enable the ActiveX controls when viewing or downloading.

Firefox (Mozilla)

The following Firefox (Mozilla) browser settings are needed for optimal playback experience.

In Mozilla, open Tools >Options
- Click on the General icon
- Click on Manage Add-on button (The Add-ons window will appear.)
- Click on Plugins
- Make sure the following plugins are installed and enabled (if not, please install them):
- Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin
- Tegrity Plugin
- Close the Add-ons window
- Click on the Content icon
- Make sure that the following check boxes are selected:
- Enable Javascript
- If pop-up windows are blocked, make sure to add the URL of your institution's Tegrity instance to the Exceptions list
- Click on the Applications icon
- Enter asf in the search field
- Make sure that asf files are associated with the Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin
- Click the OK button

Also, make sure that you have the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player installed on your PC.
