NSBRI Industry Forum Launches SMARTCAP-Accel, a Grant Funding Opportunity to Catalyze Development of Products for Spaceflight

The NSBRI Industry Forum has initiated a new grant funding program for small, U.S.-based companies who are in, or have graduated from, business accelerators. NSBRI is partnering with prominent business accelerators in the biotechnology, health and health-IT sectors to identify the best and brightest candidates for the program, which seeks innovative solutions to the health care challenges inherent to spaceflight. Companies, in partnership with sponsoring accelerators, can submit applications for the SMARTCAP-Accel program from June 11, 2013 through July 22, 2013, online at www.smartcap.org. CASIS Offers Funding Opportunities for space-based research that improves healthcare, commercial products and the overall quality of life on Earth

As manager of the International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory, the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) supports space-based research that improves healthcare, commercial products and the overall quality of life on Earth. Recently, CASIS announced the awardees from its first Request for Proposals (RFP), which was in the field of protein crystal growth—and soon CASIS will be announcing awardees from its second RFP, which focuses on materials science. Additionally, CASIS accepts unsolicited proposals at any time to encourage out-of-the-box ideas from new-to-space investigators. HESI Seeks Participants in the Selection of Safer, Sustainable Chemical Alternatives

HESI - a global scientific foundation for collaboration - is developing a multi-sector effort to evaluate and identify key elements/criteria and tools to help trigger and guide the selection of safer, sustainable chemical alternatives while minimizing the likelihood of regrettable substitutions. This program has already engaged leading experts from regulatory bodies, academe, and industry to scope the current landscape via a February 2013 workshop at the NIEHS.
