NASA Supports Univision Hispanic Education Campaign, Plans Ongoing Partnership
NASA is working with Univision Communications Inc. to develop a partnership in support of the Spanish-language media outlet's initiative to improve high school graduation rates, prepare Hispanic students for college, and encourage them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, disciplines.
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden attended Univision's announcement Feb. 23, 2010, at the National Press Club in Washington. The three-year national Hispanic education initiative is titled Es El Momento (The Moment is Now).
Among the organizations partnering on this initiative are the U.S. Department of Education and the Gates Foundation.

- It’s a great extension of the effort we have been making to foster STEM education to support the President’s Educate to Innovate program and The Race to the Top; it all fits together for us. This program is designated primarily to reach kids in the high school area, but I think with our Summer of Innovation that is focused on kids in middle school they are a perfect marriage, so we are excited to be associated with anyone that is promoting STEM.

Cut 2 (:31) - We see education as being the thing that really levels the playing field in this country. That gives every young person the opportunity to succeed. Succeed in their career and succeed in their life. Kids have to have the aspiration that it’s not enough just to finish high school, they need to have the aspiration to go on to college. I think that’s what we are here to do today, to set the stage, to have that dialogue, so youth see that possibility and we clear that pathway for them.
