Crew members of space shuttle Atlantis flew to NASA's Kennedy Space Center on Sept. 5, 2008 to check out the payload carriers, new science instruments and tools they'll be using to repair the Hubble Space Telescope and enhance its ability and functionality.

This hands-on preflight exercise is called a crew familiarization, or Payload Crew Equipment Interface Test.

The Payload CEIT gave the crew a hands-on opportunity to inspect Hubble's hardware and offer suggestions to alter repair techniques, if needed.

If practice makes perfect, the Atlantis astronauts will be well-prepared to take on the extraordinary responsibility of giving Hubble an even better view of the universe for many more years to come.

The STS-125 mission is targeted for launch on Oct. 10.
