Mike Smith has held numerous jobs with Boeing, but most recently has been assigned to manage the space station truss program where he is responsible for assembly, test and launch of nine truss segments.
Mike was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Upon his completion of high school, he entered the United States Coast Guard, where he spent four years working on marine electronics in the New Jersey area. Upon completion of his four year enlistment, he moved to Houma, Louisiana and worked for one year repairing and servicing marine electronics on sea going tug boats and oil rigs.
He left this job to attend Florida State University, where he graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He then was hired by Boeing to work on the Inertial Upper Stage program at Cape Canaveral Air Station. During his time with Boeing, Mike has completed a masters program in business administration from NOVA Southeastern University.
Mike and his wife, Leisa, have two children, ages 13 and 2. He enjoys golfing and water sports.
