BIOGRAPHY
Richard Cook

Flight Systems Manager
Mars Exploration Rover Project
Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California


Richard Cook currently serves as the Flight Systems Manager for the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Project. After launch, he will assume the position of Deputy Project Manager through the operations phase. His prior positions include Project Manager for the Mars Surveyor Operations Project and Mission Manager of the Mars Pathfinder Project.

As the Mars Pathfinder Mission Manager, he was responsible for leading day to day operations of the lander and rover missions. He received a NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal for these efforts.

Cook has been with JPL since 1989. He started in the Mission Design Section, and conducted trajectory design activities on the Magellan and Mars Pathfinder Projects. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics. He earned a Masters of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1989.

He is married with three children and lives in Santa Clarita, California.
