SWIFT MISSION

Mission Management:
NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) manages the Swift mission. The Goddard management team includes: Neil Gehrels, Principal Investigator and Joe Dezio, Project Manager. From NASA Headquarters, Lou Kaluzienski is the Program Scientist and Mel Montemerlo is the Program Manager.

Operations Team:
Penn State's Flight Operation Team operates the Swift Spacecraft. The Operations Team tracks and controls Swift to keep it in its designated orbit and monitor the health and safety of the spacecraft and its instruments.

The Flight Operations Team also interacts with the astronomical community and all data will be placed in the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC)
making the data available electronically to everyone.

Swift has 3 instruments mounted on a spacecraft bus.

Launch Team:
The launch team will support the Swift liftoff from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

On Launch Day the team will assemble in the Launch Vehicle Data Center and the Mission Director's Center about 3 to 4 hours before the Swift launch.

The NASA Launch Manager (NLM) will be the highest authority during the launch of the mission and will provide NASA's "Go/No-Go" decision to the Mission Director.

Before launch the NLM will check with the launch team to make sure all the launch criteria are being met and that the Boeing Delta II vehicle and payload are ready to go.

Swift will be tracked though a network of ground stations and satellites known as the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS). Data will be downlinked to the White Sands and Malindi TDRSS Ground Stations.
