Michagan Aurora on Jan. 7, 2005

A coronal mass ejection (CME) that sent plasma hurtling toward space erupted Jan. 1, 2005 from the sunspot designated Active Region 719, causing a geomagnetic storm and sparking aurora on Jan. 7, 2005.
