Introduction:


NASA's upcoming Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) mission is the first to provide a 3-D view of the sun and solar wind. This perspective is critical to improving our understanding of space weather and its impact on astronauts and Earth systems like communications, satellites and power grids. The two nearly identical solar observatories are scheduled for launch from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on October 25, 2006 with a launch window of 8:38 to 8:53 p.m. EDT.
