US government, industrial, and educational interests drive the NanoRacks Astrium Centrifuge research. NanoRacks provides streamlined International Space Station (ISS) access to customers to instill the value and necessity of micro-g based research. Customers are also able to distinguish between micro-g and 1-g based research.
Research in this particular facility focuses on Biology and Microbiology experiments ranging from micro-g to 1-g. The NanoRacks Astrium Centrifuge communicates with ground users, draws power from, and receives commands from the NanoRacks Platform-3. NanoRacks Platform-3 provides stowage, power, heat rejection and USB data port connectivity for the NanoRacks Astrium Centrifuge. NanoRacks users are able to use up to six powered Experimental Containers (EC’s) in the centrifuge with up to twelve powered and four unpowered EC’s in the BioRack. Although the basic elements of the Centrifuge Assembly are reflown, the implementation of this hardware into Platform-3 is new and the Mounting Plate is new.Operations
