05.18.2009

On Friday, May 8, 2009, in the last minutes of the countdown before launch of the Minotaur 1 rocket carrying NASA's PharmaSat, NASA's Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, Va., detected a Flight Termination System (FTS) anomaly that caused the launch to be aborted. The FTS is a flight safety system required to destroy a rocket in the event it does not follow its prescribed flight path. The team at Wallops has taken steps to characterize the FTS issue and is looking forward to the next launch attempt on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.
