POES Deputy Project Manager

Wayne McIntyre has been the Deputy Project Manager for the Polar Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) Project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center since 2002. He is responsible for all technical and programmatic aspects of the Project.

Mr. McIntyre began his career at Goddard in 1964 and has held leadership and management roles in the launch vehicle propulsion and spacecraft fields. After serving nine years as NASA Manager of Aerobee Sounding Rockets, he transferred to the Delta Launch Vehicle Project where he served as Delta Propulsion Systems Manager, responsible for the propulsion on all three stages of the Delta series of launch vehicles. In 1983, Wayne transferred to NASA Headquarters as the Program Manager for Space Shuttle Main Engine Production.

Mr. McIntyre spent five years in commercial space from 1984 to 1989. He was involved in various propulsion startup ventures. In 1989, he returned to work in the Space Shuttle Program at NASA Headquarters. He spent five years as the Program Manager for Solid Rocket Boosters and Program Manager for Process Development for the Advanced Solid Rocket Motor Program.

In 1994, Wayne returned to Goddard to work on the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Program. He served in various positions including Systems Engineer, Mission Operations Manager and Observatory Manager where he had technical responsibilities for the GOES I-M series of spacecraft.

Mr. McIntyre has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Masters of Science degree in Engineering Administration from George Washington University.
