Mike Mignogno has been the NOAA Polar Satellite Program Manager since 1997. His responsibilities include the program management and acquisition of the POES satellites, the cooperation with European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) under an Initial Joint Polar System, the development and implementation of POES product systems, the implementation of the NPOESS system within NOAA, and Jason-2, a cooperative U.S.-European space-based altimetry mission.

From 1989 to 1997, he was NOAA’s Landsat Program Manager and coordinator for NOAA’s licensing of space-based private remote sensing systems. Mike has been a NOAA employee since 1980 and started his government career at the National Climatic Data Center, in Asheville, North Carolina.

Mr. Mignogno has received the Department of Commerce’s Bronze Medal for Superior Federal Service on four occasions. Mr. Mignogno holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University and the University of Oklahoma, respectively.
