This color image of the rayed crater Fonteyn, shows the central portion of its ray system. Rays on Mercury are usually maturity rays, meaning they are composed of fresh material from young craters and over geologic time they are weathered by space until they blend in with the background. Fonteyn is also interesting because of the bright material near the crater.
