This image shows the Al Hamadhani impact basin. In this three color image, color is analogous to composition. Some parts of the basin appear more blue than the surrounding material, indicating compositional variation across the basin itself. This variation in composition makes this basin an interesting target for scientists. The basin is named for Badi' al-Zaman al-Hamadhani, an Iranian author who lived over a thousand years ago. He is best known for his collection of stories featuring a rogue named Abu al-Fath al-Iskandari. He is also known as "the wonder of the age."
