As the Explorers Deputy Program Manager since November 2001, Dezio supported numerous Explorer missions and principal investigators and also was the acting Swift Project Manager. Swift has been operating successfully on-orbit since November 2004 and has detected over 100 Gamma ray bursts thus far.
In 1967, Dezio received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science from Oakland University, Rochester, Mich., and came to GSFC from the Physics Department of that institution in 1969 to begin work on the IMP-I project. Since then he has contributed to numerous other successful NASA projects such as AEM/HCMM and Landsat 4 as their mechanical system lead; ERBS as the observatory manager; Space Station Platforms now AURA and AQUA as their development project manager; GOES recovery 1989-93 as the deputy project manager; GGS WIND and POLAR missions as deputy and project manager respectively; and on ICESAT as project manager.
Over the course of his 36 years at Goddard Dezio has received numerous performance and group awards and the NASA medal for exceptional service in 1997.
