The heliosphere, in which the Sun and planets reside, is a large bubble, extending well beyond all the planets, that is inflated from the inside by the high-speed solar wind blowing out continuously from the Sun. The heliosphere protects us by shielding out a large part of the dangerous galactic radiation coming in from the interstellar medium. IBEX is the first spacecraft to observe and map the invisible interactions occurring at this boundary.
