› Mobile, Ala., Native Sabrina Savage Named Deputy Project Scientist for NASA's Hinode Mission to Study the Sun

  • Spectacular images from the Hinode spacecraft show the solar eclipse, which darkened the sky in parts of the Western United States and Southeast Asia yesterday. This image shows the maximum eclipse.

  • The X-ray Telescope on the Japanese/NASA mission Hinode has been observing the full Sun, nearly continuously, for an extended period. In this movie significant small-scale dynamic events can be observed as well as the slow maturation of many active regions now visible on the solar disk.

  • On January 27, 2012 a large X-class flare erupted from an Active region near the solar west limb. Seen here is an image of the flare captured by the X-Ray Telescope on Hinode.
