The GRAIL mission lifted off at 9:08 a.m. EDT on Sept. 10, 2011, aboard a Delta II rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. The mission will send twin spacecraft to the moon to conduct unique research on the lunar gravity field and the core of the Earth's closest neighbor. The NASA Launch Blog followed the countdown that culminated with a spectacular liftoff.
