The GOES Project Mission Statement - To work as an effective, integrated Government and Industry team to ensure the economical, timely, and successful delivery of a highly technical Geosynchronous Space and Earth Environment Observing Satellite System used to predict the weather and climate change; to protect life, property, and the nation's vital interests; and to enhance the global quality of life.

Meet the Team

    Mission Management:

The GOES program is a joint effort involving NASA, the U.S. Department of Commerce National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Industry. Those working on the GOES Program share core values of integrity, innovation, excellence, respect and trust, which form the foundation of the GOES-N Series Team and are the guiding principles by which we operate. The GOES Program is managed by NOAA. Steve Kirkner is the NOAA GOES Program Manager located in Silver Spring, Maryland. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) performs the satellite, ground system, and launch services acquisition and pre-operational checkout efforts for NOAA. The NASA GOES Program Manager is Martin A. Davis located at GSFC in Greenbelt, Maryland. Boeing is the prime spacecraft and launch services contractor. Jon M. Goodney is the Boeing GOES Program Manager located in El Segundo, California.

The prime GOES payload Imager and Sounder instruments were developed by ITT in Fort Wayne, Indiana. A Solar X-Ray Imager was developed by Lockheed Martin in Palo Alto, California. Additional space environment monitoring instruments were developed by Assurance Technology Corporation (formerly GE Panametrics) in Carlisle, Massachusetts and magnetometers were developed by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in Columbia, Maryland.

Significant upgrades and new elements of the satellite support ground system were provided by Integral Systems Incorporated in Lanham, Maryland.
