Smoke from Australian fires over New Zealand

moke from some of the many fires are burning throughout Australia has blown southeast, crossed the Tasman Sea and is affecting New Zealand. This visible image shows the stream of smoke on Jan. 18 at 2240 UTC (5:40 p.m. EST/U.S.) by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument that flies aboard NASA's Terra satellite. The smoke appears as a light brown color in the image.
