Fires in British Columbia, Canada

Several large forest fires burned in British Columbia, Canada on August 4, 2010. The fires are outlined in red in this true-color image taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite. The fires shown in this image are in the Cariboo region of the province, where 120 fires were burning on August 3. Many of the large fires ignited in a lightning storm on July 28, and additional lightning-caused fires started on August 3, said the wildfire management branch of the forest service in British Columbia.
