The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite detected dozens of fires burning in the Indus River Valley of Pakistan on February 08, 2013. Actively burning areas, detected by MODIS’s thermal bands, are outlined in red. These fires follow the Indus River from as far south as Karachi to Bawalpur and points north. It is not readily apparent why these fires are occurring.
