Fires continue to burn in Eastern Russia since late June 2012. This image captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying aboard the Terra satellite acquired this true-color image on July 10, 2012 at 03:20 UTC (July 9 at 11:40pm EDT/U.S.) The instrument's thermal sensors detected heat signatures in multiple locations, and these appear in red in the image. When combined with smoke, such signatures indicate active fires.
On July 3, Interfax reported that 90 wildfires were registered in the past 24 hours in the Russian Far East, 70 of which burned in the Khabarovsk Territory alone. It seems as though these fires have continued to ignite in the area as warm, dry weather continues.
