In July 2003, Ball Aerospace Lead Engineer Tom Yarnell performed a final configuration verification of the Deep Impact Spacecraft’s telescope assemblies prior to sealing the thermal vacuum chamber for a series of environmental tests. These tests verified that the telescopes and their associated electronics would function in a deep space environment.

In December 2007, Deep Impact was re-christened EPOXI.
