First Lieutenant Lee Barnhill

Lee Barnhill, a member of the 30th Weather Squadron at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., is one of four active duty Launch Weather Officers that manage all launches from the Western Range. As a Launch Weather Officer, his responsibilities include planning, monitoring and leading all weather support, total weather support integration into pre-launch operations, launch countdown simulations, final terminal countdowns and post-launch data analyses.

Lt. Barnhill entered the Air Force in 1993 as a Weather Observer. He served eight years as an enlisted member at Reese AFB, TX and Fort Polk AAF, LA. Lt Barnhill received his Bachelor of Science in Geosciences and Operational Meteorology from Mississippi State University in 2001 and an Air Force commission in 2002 from Officer Training School, Maxwell AFB, AL. He was then assigned to 2nd Operations Support Squadron at Barksdale AFB, LA from April 2002 to April 2004. There he served as a Wing Weather Officer for the 2nd Bomb Wing. In April 2004, Lt. Barnhill was assigned to Vandenberg AFB as a Launch Weather Officer.
