Sculptor Galaxy Seen as Infrared Rainbow

The Sculptor galaxy is shown in different infrared hues, in this new mosaic from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE. The main picture is a composite of infrared light captured with all four of the space telescope's infrared detectors. The blue image at top right shows light captured by the telescope's shortest-wavelength detectors (3.4 and 4.6 microns). The green pictures shows light seen by WISE's 12-micron detector; and the red image shows light picked up by the 22-micron detector.
