NASA researchers used computer modeling and this wind tunnel model to determine where the telescope should be installed on the SOFIA observatory and how air would flow over the telescope cavity. This 1/15th-scale SOFIA wind tunnel model was used to test the telescope cavity in locations both in front of and behind the wing. (NASA/SOFIA Kassandra Bell) › View Larger Photo
