Questions and Answers about the News Release Listserve Switch

10.17.05

Q: How do I subscribe to the mailing list on the new server?
A: Create a new e-mail message, leave the message area blank and send it to:

hqnews-subscribe@mediaservices.nasa.gov

The mailing list manager will send a reply asking for your address confirmation. Reply to that email and the mailing list manager will add your email address to the list of subscribers. Note: If you were subscribed to the old listserve before Oct. 18, 2005, your subscription will transfer automatically.

Q: How do I unsubscribe from the list?
A: Create a new e-mail message, leave the message area blank and send it to:

hqnews-unsubscribe@mediaservices.nasa.gov

The mailing list manager will send a reply asking for your address confirmation. Reply to that email and the mailing list manager will remove your email address from the list.

Q: How do I get help messages for the mailing list?
A: Send an email to:

hqnews-help@newsletters.nasa.gov

and the mailing list manager will send you a list of commands that can be used to view the help text.

Q: Can subscribers post messages to this list?
A: No. The only authorized posters are members of NASA's News and Multimedia Division in the Office of Public Affairs.

Q: How do I get a list of news releases published in the past?
A: You can get a list by sending an email to

mailto hqnews-get.(from number)_(to number)@mediaservices.nasa.gov

For example, if you wish to retrieve the last 10 news releases you can send an email to:

hqnews-get.1_10@mediaservices.nasa.gov

Q: Why is subscribing to or unsubscribing from a newsletter a two-step process?
A: The two-step process ensures that no one can add your address to a list which you do not want to subscribe to.

Q: Can I get a list of subscribers?
A: Only the List Administrator has access to the list of users.
