When Joan Stupik was a child, her parents bought her a mini-planetarium that she could use to project the stars onto her bedroom ceiling. While she didn’t always plan to become an engineer, she always liked math and science and credits her high school guidance counselors for steering her in the right direction to become an engineer.

Now she’s part of the team developing NASA’s Europa Clipper mission that will explore Jupiter’s moon Europa to see whether the icy moon could harbor conditions suitable for life.
