Scores of wildfires light up parts of Russia in this Aqua satellite image taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument on August 15, 2016. Smoke billowing from the fires appears grayish white and is streaming west in this image. Burn scars from previous fires also appear in this image. Darker patches of land seen in the left hand side of the image denote areas that have burned during previous wildfire activity. Red spots denote areas of current fire activity.
