Expedition One Commander Bill Shepherd, Soyuz Commander Yuri Gidzenko and Flight Engineer Sergei Krikalev will arrive at the ISS two days later for docking and the start of non-stop human habitation of the outpost. The Russian Aviation and Space Agency (Rosaviakosmos) and RSC Energia are arranging a news media trip to Baikonur from Oct. 27 to 30 to cover the crew's pre-flight and launch activities. Goldin today opened the doors for students at The University of Puerto Rico to discover the world of science and technology through a new agency-sponsored Aeronautics Education Laboratory (AEL). Goldin, accompanied by University president Dr. Norman I. Maldonado, dedicated the lab in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Arecibo Campus. The AEL is a component of NASA Glenn Research Center's Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Aerospace Academy (SEMAA), whose mission it is to increase the number of underrepresented and underserved students interested in science and math, and to teach these subjects through hands-on activities in aerospace, astronomy, engineering and space exploration. Goldin will release spectacular new pictures from NASA's Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) in a multimedia event next week in New York City. These images of fiery solar features will be introduced at a news briefing with American Museum of Natural History President Ellen Futter. The TRACE images for the first time reveal the location of the heating source for the Sun's atmosphere, which burns at temperatures 1,000 times greater than the Sun's visible surface.
