STS-99 CREW POST-FLIGHT 
BRIEFING AT GERMAN EMBASSY

     The STS-99 Endeavor crew will hold a post-flight press 
briefing at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Carl 
Schurz Auditorium, 4645 Reservoir Road, NW, Washington, DC, on 
Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at 11:30 a.m.  

     Participants in this briefing will be Commander Kevin Kregel; 
Pilot Dom Gorie; and Mission Specialists Janice Voss, Janet 
Kavandi, Gerhard Thiele (European Space Agency) and Mamoru Mohri 
(NASDA, the Japanese Space Agency).

     The primary objective of the 11-day Shuttle Radar Topography 
Mission was to acquire a high-resolution topographic map of the 
Earth's land mass (between 60°N and 56°S) and to test new 
technologies for deployment of large, rigid structures and 
measurement of their distortions to extremely high precision. 

     The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission represents a 
breakthrough in the science of remote sensing and produced 
topographic maps of Earth 30 times as precise as the best global 
maps in use today. The information will produce one of the most 
comprehensive and accurate maps of Earth ever assembled. 

     Endeavour was launched from the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), 
FL, on February 11, 2000, and landed at KSC on February 22, 2000.

     The mission was a partnership between NASA, the National 
Imagery and Mapping Agency and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
