Add to NASA Daily News Summary For Release: April 30, 1999 Media Advisory m99-087a Summary: -- News Release: Cloudsat to Revolutionize Study of Clouds and Climate ***** NEWS RELEASE: CLOUDSAT TO REVOLUTIONIZE STUDY OF CLOUDS AND CLIMATE NASA will take a revolutionary, global look at clouds with a new spaceborne radar capable of peering deep into their interior to study their structure, composition and effects on climate. Cloudsat, which will fly in 2003, will use an advanced radar to "slice" through clouds to see their vertical structure, providing a completely new observational capability from space -- current weather satellites can only image the uppermost layers of clouds.
