Landsat 7, scheduled to launch April 15 at 2:32 p.m. EDT, will gather information about the Earth's land surfaces and surrounding coastal regions. Analysis of the Landsat 7 data will provide scientists with new information on deforestation, receding glaciers and crop monitoring. The data also will be available commercially for land-use planning and urban development issues. The press conference will be carried live on NASA Television from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. EDT. NASA Television is broadcast on the GE2 satellite located on transponder 9C, at 85 degrees West longitude, frequency 3880.0 Mhz, audio 6.8 MHz. Today's new images of twenty U.S. regions have been released to highlight the upcoming launch of the next generation Earth observing satellite - Landsat 7. The Landsat Thematic Mapper captured these images. Images includes the following regions (in order of appearance): Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Sacramento, St. Louis, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC/Baltimore.
