NASA Daily News Summary For Release: April 9, 1999 Media Advisory m99-070 ***** Summary -- News Release: International Space Station Service Module Rollout Set -- Video File for April 9 ***** INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION SERVICE MODULE ROLLOUT SET The formal rollout and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Service Module element of the International Space Station will be held April 26 at RSC-Energia in Moscow. Top NASA, Russian Space Agency, RSC-Energia and European Space Agency space station officials will hold a press conference immediately before the rollout. News media representatives wishing to attend the activities, which begin at 9 a.m. Moscow time at GONTI Hall at RSC-Energia, must register by Monday, April 12. The Service Module is scheduled to be launched later this year for linkup as the third element of the International Space Station. The news conference and ceremony will be recorded and replayed on NASA Television later in the day. The lava flow surface (upper portion of frame) is rough but covered with fine sand or dust. The ripples along the base of the lava flow margin are spaced about 50 feet apart and formed by wind. ITEM 1B ANCIENT CRATERED SURFACE The view of cratered uplands on Mars shows an ancient, cratered surface covered by windblown dunes and ripples oriented in different directions. ITEM 1C OLYMPICA FOSSAE The Olympica Fossae, a collection of troughs and depressions, exemplify the range of landforms seen elsewhere on Mars. This picture shows many examples including layered outcrops in canyon walls, evenly spaced dunes on canyon floors, dark landslide streaks on the canyon walls, pits formed by ground collapse and streamlined forms related to the flow of water, mud or lava. ITEM 1D WALL OF TITHONIUM Layers of wall rock, windblown drifts and landslide deposits can be seen in this new view of the wall of Tithonium Chasma in the Valles Marineris trough system. The picture covers an area 1.9 miles wide by about 6.8 miles long. Today's new images of twenty U.S. regions have been released to highlight the upcoming launch of the next generation Earth observing satellite - Landsat 7. The Landsat Thematic Mapper captured these images. Images includes the following regions (in order of appearance): Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Sacramento, St. Louis, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC/Baltimore. Collins is the first woman assigned as a Space Shuttle Commander.
