NASA Administrator Names Morrell Chief of Staff

Paul Morrell has been named chief of staff for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration by Administrator Michael Griffin.

Morrell most recently was serving as senior adviser to the administrator, assisting in the development and implementation of policies and activities to support NASA’s goals for research and space exploration.

He came to NASA in April 2005 from the National Security Council where he was responsible for the formulation and implementation of communication plans and strategies to inform the public about the Bush Administration’s foreign and national security policy initiatives. Morrell also has served as deputy chief of staff for strategic planning at the U.S. Department of Energy from January 2003 to February 2004, advising the Secretary of Energy on communication, policy and management issues.

From 1983 to 2002, he worked in a number of positions for several members of Congress, including House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas), for whom he served in a variety of senior positions, including administrative assistant, press secretary, director of special projects, deputy chief of staff and chief of staff.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism/public relations from the University of Maryland.
