(Phone: 818/354-5011)RELEASE: 04-294 NASA UPDATES GENESIS MISSION STATUS Genesis team specialists are beginning the process of conducting inventory of the contents of the craft's science canister. The canister is inside a clean room at the U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground, Utah. Scientists are hopeful the recovered Genesis samples will be sufficient to achieve the mission's science goals. The team is handling the canister and the sample return capsule in a methodical manner. When this inventory is completed, the materials will be transferred to NASA's Johnson Space Center, Houston, as originally planned. NASA is convening a Mishap Investigation Board to determine why the Genesis parachute failed to deploy.
