May 4, 2004 Allard Beutel Headquarters, Washington (Phone: 202/358-4769) NOTE TO EDITORS: N04-064 NASA SAFETY PANEL ISSUES FIRST QUARTERLY REPORT The first quarterly report from the reconstituted NASA Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel (ASAP) is available on the Internet. NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe rechartered ASAP in November 2003, to provide independent, long-term oversight of safety issues regarding operations, missions and other agency initiatives. The charter was revised to be consistent with the intent of ASAP's original 1967 charter. That includes being focused on NASA's safety and quality systems, industrial and systems safety, risk management, trend analysis and the management of these activities. The new charter also calls on ASAP to report quarterly instead of annually. This is the panel's first report. The quarterly report, information about ASAP, including a copy of its charter and member biographies, is available on the panel's Web site at: http://asap.nasa.gov For information about NASA and agency programs on the Internet, visit: http://www.nasa.gov -end-
