NASA Participates in First White House Science Education Summit
NASA is participating tomorrow in the first White House Science Summit. More than 800 educators, researchers, scientists, and business leaders are expected to attend.
NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe will speak at the Summit's opening ceremony at 8:35 a.m. EST. He will participate in a media availability with Department of Education Secretary Rod Paige and Dr. John Marburger of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy at 9:30 a.m. EST.
The Summit, at the Washington Hilton Hotel, includes an Expo of science, technology, and math exhibits from 29 federal agencies. The Expo features innovative teaching, curricula, and panel discussions with experts from government, academia and industry.
The Science Summit is part of a multi-agency effort to improve national science education. It follows the work of last year's Math Summit. Both are part of the President's Mathematics and Science Initiative, developed and implemented by the Department of Education, NASA, National Science Foundation and other federal agencies involved in education and workforce development.
