MEDIA WORKSHOP SHOWCASES DISCOVERY'S RETURN TO FLIGHT PROGRESS

The media are invited for an informative workshop and tour of the 
Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) at NASA's Kennedy Space Center on 
July 23 to see workers preparing Space Shuttle Discovery for Return 
to Flight. 

Technical experts are leading workshops about Reinforced Carbon-Carbon 
and vehicle instrumentation from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. EDT in the Press 
Site Auditorium. 

Reporters then will tour the OPF and see work in progress on 
Discovery, including the reinstallation of the Reinforced 
Carbon-Carbon panels on the Shuttle's wing leading edge, wiring 
inspections and instrumentation being completed for Return to Flight. 
NASA Vehicle Manager Stephanie Stilson will be available to discuss 
the work and answer questions.

The tours will be divided into three afternoon sessions. The first and 
third sessions for print reporters and still photographers depart the 
KSC Press Site at noon and 2:30 p.m. The second session for TV 
reporters and videographers departs the Press Site at 1:15 p.m. Space 
is limited. Access is granted on a first-requested basis and limited 
to two persons per organization.

Media who want to attend this event must contact the KSC Press Site 
(321/867-2468) by close of business July 21. The sessions will not be 
shown on NASA Television.

Since the OPF is an operational facility that deals in hazardous 
materials, all who enter must be properly dressed in long pants and 
closed-toe shoes with low heels. Sleeveless shirts are not allowed.
