The Habitation Systems Project's Deep Space Habitat (DSH) is a one story, 4-port habitat unit with an approximate volume of 56 cubic meters [1,978 ft3]. The HDU-DSH shell can accommodate an inflatable loft for additional laboratory or habitation volume.
The shape of the DSH shell is cylindrical with a vertically oriented axis. It has a 5.0 meter [16.4 ft] inner diameter, 2.0 meter [6.6 ft] barrel height, and 0.65 meter [2.1 ft] end domes on top and bottom for total height of 3.3 meters [10.8 ft].
The DSH prototype shell is made of composite fiberglass resin-infused shell attached to eight double 0.8 cm [5/16"] thick steel ribs.
The DSH shell empty weight is 6424 kg [14,163 lbs]. It sits upon a 4.2 meter square cradle that weighs 3311 kg [7300lbs]. The cradle is load rated to 11340 kg [25,000lbs] with a safety factor of 2.
The maximum outfitting weight including electrical power systems, avionics, communications equipment, lighting systems, workstations, laboratory equipment, and test articles is 4808 kg [10,600lbs].
The maximum DSH static weight is 21909 kg [48,300 lbs], which includes the shell, the outfitting, the cradle, and the occupants.
