Propulsion engineer Sandra Greene, left, and test engineer Cynthia Sprader recently completed a series of test firings at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. to gather acoustic data on the engines to be used with the Space Launch System, a powerful heavy-lift rocket being designed for exploration missions. They took advantage of the hot-fire tests to verify that 3-D printed parts of a subscale rocket engine performed as well as traditionally manufactured parts. They are holding an injector that was manufactured and readied for the tests in just three weeks.
