Orion Parachute Recovery Practice

JSC2012-E-132863 (9 Aug. 2012) --- Personnel from NASA's Johnson Space Center and Kennedy Space Center practice recovering Orion's parachutes at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory in Houston. The teams were determining the best methods for retrieving the chutes from the water after Orion's splashdown. Each main chute weighs close to 300 pounds, and the water doubles that weight.
