WATCHING A LAUNCH FROM THE WALLOPS VISITOR CENTER
[image-101]The Visitor Center and grounds are open to support most launches from Wallops Island. The Visitor Center is located approximately 4 miles from the launch pads with a perfect view of every launch from ground to sky. Parking is available on a first come, first served basis so please plan to arrive at least 30-60 min before launch time. Please keep in mind pets are NOT allowed on Visitor Center grounds during a launch. All pets must be kept in the vehicle during a launch unless they are a service animal. RV's will NOT be allowed to park in the Visitor Center parking lot and groups arriving in large vehicles (vans, busses, etc) need to give 1 day advance notice. If groups in large vehicles arrive without giving advance notice, they will NOT be allowed to park in the Visitor Center parking lot. Please call 757.824.2298 to let us know if you will be bringing a group in a large vehicle. Thank you!
There are three main viewing spots visitors may choose from that are all handicap accessible:
- Bleacher seating in an open field close to the Visitor Center (preferred)
- Indoor viewing of the live broadcast in our auditorium
*Outdoor viewing areas are subject to seasonal weather changes and insects. Bug spray and sunscreen are always great to have at any spring or summer launch! Download this fun checklist to help your family prepare for your visit!
WATCHING A LAUNCH FROM CHINCOTEAGUE OR ASSATEAGUE ISLAND
[image-51]Chincoteague Island is also a great place to view launches. Some suggested viewing locations include Robert Reed waterfront park on Main Street located behind the Misty statue, south Main Street to Curtis Merritt harbor, and the bike trail adjacent to Assateague Bridge. For more information about viewing locations on Chincoteague please contact the Chamber of Commerce at 757-336-6161.
Assateague Island beach is open for launch viewing during their normal business hours. If a launch is scheduled to occur outside of their normal business hours please inquire if the beach will stay open to support the launch by contacting the Visitor Center at 757-824-1344
CAN'T MAKE IT TO THESE LOCATIONS?
The Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission, in collaboration with Wallops, recently launched a new landing page on their website for visitors seeking to travel to the area for launch. The webpage includes additional launch viewing sites, local restaurants, overnight accommodations, and other fun activities visitors can enjoy while traveling the beautiful Eastern Shore.

Download the free What's Up at Wallops App!
Android and iOS users have the option of downloading the What's Up at Wallops app, which contains information on the launch as well as a compass showing the precise direction for launch viewing. The information includes operational schedule, description, visualization, direction, and launch status. By using the "direction" feature, a compass will direct you to the launch site no matter how far away you are! Use the compass direction to find where the rocket will be launched from and then look toward the sky. Users can also link to the Ustream webcast right from the app.
