NASA’s Aqua satellite captured an image of smoke from several fires burning in several of Chile’s protected areas. Smoke was seen from fires burning in the Conguillio National Park, China Muerta National Reserve, and Nalca Lolco National Reserve. Those fires started in mid-March.

This natural-color satellite image was collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument that flies aboard the Aqua satellite on April 11, 2015. Other actively burning areas, detected by MODIS’ thermal bands were (red) southwest of Conguillo National Park.,
