AIM Mission Extended

NASA just announced it has extended its Aeronomy of Ice, or AIM, satellite mission, which launched April, 25, 2007, for an additional two years.

Instruments on AIM study night shining, or noctilucent clouds, that hover on the edge of space.

Twilight, noctilucent clouds and aurora make for a colorful sky.
On Sunday, June 9, 2013, Alan Dyer of Gleichen, Alberta, Canada caught this image showing atop the rosy glow of twilight, dual bands of electric-blue noctilucent clouds and green auroras. These two phenomena are not related.
