Astronomers Without Borders (AWB)
Astronomers Without Borders: AstroArt Project
is an organization that seeks to foster understanding and goodwill across national and cultural boundaries by creating relationships through astronomy. Astronomers Without Borders projects promote sharing -- sharing resources, sharing knowledge, sharing inspiration -- all through a common interest in something basic and universal: sharing the sky
The Astronomers Without Borders AstroArt
project began in January 2013, as a part of GAM2012 -- Global Astronomy Month
. AstroArt, as their mission states, is “the product of an artist and a creative idea that is associated with astronomy, atmospheric objects, or sky phenomena -- real or imagined, future or historical. It is the creative and often unique process of communicating ideas about such objects through art.” This project seeks to feature artists from a variety of backgrounds and aims at bridging gaps between the arts, science, astronomy and culture in general.
Global Astronomy Month 2012 (GAM2012)
represented the inauguration of the AstroArt program. This program features artists from a variety of backgrounds presenting work such as poetry, music, movies and artwork. Due to the success of the AstroArt project at the GAM2012, it was decided that it would become a regular, ongoing program at AWB. Every month the AstroArt project will feature an “AstroArtist of the Month”
, either an artist, scientist or other creative individual will be showcase his or her work showcased online.
