Former classmates from the U.S. Naval Academy are planning to honor Columbia pilot William McCool with a memorial on the cross-country course where he once ran as a midshipman.
According to The Washington Post, McCool's friends selected a site for the memorial about 15 minutes from the finish line, based on McCool's old running times. McCool and his six crewmates were about 15 mintues from home when the Columbia was lost on February 1, 2003.
