Scientific Balloon Launches from New Mexico
The Fall 2012 Scientific Balloon campaign continued September 9 with a successful scientific balloon flight out of Fort Sumner, N.M. The balloon carried the Analog Site Testbed for Readiness Advancement (ASTRA) payload to an altitude of over 107,000 feet. The flight lasted for 4 hours and 30 minutes.
ASTRA is the first step toward a multi-use platform to test the technology readiness of instruments designed for Mars exploration.
Congrats to the Wallops Balloon Program Office!
